Candlestick with lotus scrolls

China

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 220

This candlestick originally included a tube-shaped candleholder that rose from the center of the dish. A metal medallion was later added to cover the missing part, transforming the piece into a stem dish. Its pattern styles and enamel coloring identify it as an early Ming cloisonné work.
